Editorial Policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
WPSumo aims to report the news accurately, fairly and with context. This policy describes the editorial standards we seek to follow across reporting, analysis, opinion, photographs, video and other published material. It is a working policy and should be updated to reflect the publisher’s actual editorial process.
Accuracy and verification
We seek to verify material facts before publication using reliable sources, original documents, direct observation and on-the-record responses where available. Important claims should be checked against primary records or more than one independent source when practical. We distinguish confirmed facts from allegations, estimates, projections and information that remains uncertain. Headlines, captions and summaries should reflect the substance of the report.
Fairness, context and right of response
We aim to present relevant context and avoid misleading omissions. When a report contains serious criticism or an allegation about an identifiable person or organisation, we make reasonable efforts to seek a response before publication or to include a fair account of the response received. A person named in a report may contact the editorial team with relevant information or documents.
Sources and attribution
We identify sources clearly where possible and attribute information to its origin. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is important, cannot reasonably be obtained on the record and the source has a credible basis for knowing it. Editors should understand the source’s identity and reason for anonymity. We do not present unverified social media posts, forwarded messages or rumours as established fact.
Corrections and updates
If we identify a material error, we aim to correct it promptly and make the change clear to readers where appropriate. Updates that add significant new information should be distinguished from corrections. Readers can request a review by sending the article URL, the disputed passage, the proposed correction and supporting evidence to editorial@example.com (sample placeholder; replace with a monitored editorial address). We review requests on their merits; a request does not guarantee a change.
Independence and conflicts of interest
Editorial decisions should be based on public interest, evidence and news value. Advertising, sponsorship, political activity, gifts or personal relationships should not improperly influence coverage. Staff and contributors should disclose relevant conflicts to an editor. Paid, sponsored or partner material must be clearly distinguished from independent editorial reporting.
News, analysis, opinion and paid content
We aim to label commentary, analysis, opinion, sponsored material and other formats so readers can understand what they are reading and who is responsible for it. Opinion contributors are responsible for their arguments, while editors remain responsible for checking factual claims and ensuring the presentation is not misleading.
Privacy, vulnerable people and sensitive coverage
We weigh the public interest against potential harm when reporting on private individuals, children, victims of violence, health matters, grief and other sensitive subjects. We seek consent where appropriate, avoid unnecessary identification of vulnerable people and follow legal restrictions on identifying protected individuals. Graphic or distressing imagery should be used only when editorially justified and presented with suitable context.
Images, video and emerging tools
Captions should accurately identify what an image or video depicts. Illustrative, archival, edited or synthetic visuals should not be presented as documentary evidence of an event. Digital tools, including generative AI, may assist newsroom tasks, but editors remain responsible for verifying factual claims, checking rights and reviewing material before publication. Material that could materially mislead readers should be labelled or not published.
Complaints and standards
Readers may raise concerns about accuracy, fairness, privacy, conflicts or other editorial standards by writing to editorial@example.com (sample placeholder; replace with a monitored editorial address). Include the relevant article link and enough detail for the editors to assess the concern. We aim to review complaints fairly and explain any resulting correction or decision. Our approach is informed, where applicable, by the Press Council of India’s Norms of Journalistic Conduct and other relevant requirements.
This policy may be revised as WPSumo’s editorial operations and applicable requirements develop. The latest version will be posted on this page.
